"Classic/Timeless" style can be referred to as styles that are simple, that have been around for many years, always in season and translate easily across different era's. These are items that are very basic but are worn almost everyday, they are your building block pieces for a polished look and can be worn by every women shape and size.
Every women should have these basic clothing essentials to help build a well rounded wardrobe. With these items it will make outfit building easier, give you endless outfits options, easy to mix with trendier pieces, and of course having you look your best.
These items should be seen as investments so don't be afraid to spending a bit more because you will be wearing these items more than others and you want the best quality that will last for years. These are items you go to for those last minute meetings, events, dinners and so much more..They are a last minute Helper!
Now Let's Get Into It!
1. LBD- Little Black Dress
We all need that one dress that has a multipurpose and that my friends is the LBD. It's a black dress that can be worn on many different occasions and settings, the simplicity of the dress is a great component because you can dress it up or dress it down. Depending on what style of the dress you get this can work all year round and easily transitions from work to dinner date at night! And of course black is a color that flatters everyone and with this dress you can find different necklines, lengths and materials but get whatever suits your body, lifestyle and budget. This is definitely a dress I pull out when I'm in doubt, I have about 4 LBD's that are suitable for many occasions, I would suggest getting 2-3, 1 really basic, one a bit more form fitting and one that is a bit trendy/sexy for those more "grown" events
2.Cardigan
These are great layering pieces for all year round, they are never out of season there just always in! Depending on the length and cut they can be amazing cover up for summer dresses and great warmer with jeans and boots in the winter. With cardigans they can also be dressed up or dress down and come in array of colors. I would suggest have about 3-5 cardigans in black, grey, white, a pattern that suits your personality and a color that you love and wear often.
Seems really weird to add this in right? But this is be a staple because it a shirt that can never go out of style, adds class to your look and is simple not complicated. Its a shirt that is multipurpose where it can be worn at work, traveling or even dinner. Its Great to wear with a blazer and jean or with skirt or dress pant. Every grown women should have at least 2 of these in a quality made material that keeps its shape, color and isn't translucent. If you want a good quality one you are going to have to spend a bit more but it will be worth it over time,I would suggest buying from Ralph Lauren, Club Monaco and Tommy Hilfiger.
4.Black Blazer
Having a simple black blazer is a great piece to have because it can be dressy or casual and of course black suits everyone and goes with everything. It works great to have a professional look and fabulous for a semi-casual, it adds a polished and sophisticated look to your outfit making it very modern. And with this blazer you can get it in different cuts and styles but be sure to get one that hits right at wrist, the length where you want it to drop is totally up to you and I would suggest getting a fitted one but if you can't find one get a tailor to fit it properly to your body. I would suggest having 2;1 that's very basic and professional for those more serious events and a longer one that can be worn for casual settings.
5.Basic T-Shirts
We all need pieces for layering and the basic t-shirt is perfect for that. It comes in a variety of different necklines to suit every women's body and can be inexpensive too. Great to put under your cardigan or blazer and good for just a lazy day doing errands. I would suggest having at least 6-8; 3 white,2 black,2 in graphic or pattern and 1 color you like. Seems like a lot of shirts but trust me these shirts are very inexpensive and easy to throw on.
Don't see the need for them? Have you ever seen the need for that can of soup in your cabinet only until your hungry? Well that's what the dress pant is for...emergencies. For that last minute interview, church service you never been too or that unexpected meeting you have with a client. The black dress pant will save you in those circumstances where you wont have to think to hard about your outfit. I would suggest having 1 pair and depending on your body type and height your going to have to get the length and cut that best suits you.
7. Pencil Skirt
A skirt is a great option for those days where you want to feel a bit more feminine and don't want to wear a pant. Depending on you body shape the skirt will bring out most women's best feature which is their legs! If its summer you can go without pantyhose and in winter put on a plain one or one with a design. Now with some body shapes the pencil skirt doesn't flatter them but I would suggest getting a straight cut or 'A' line skirt in either black or navy.
8. Jeans
Jeans Jeans and more jeans! Everyone needs a good pair of jeans in their closet whether your old or young you need a pair. Jeans are a great staple to have because you can dress them up and down and they come in a variety of washes and styles. You can wear these almost anywhere like work for casual fridays or a party. Now skinny jeans and boyfriend jeans are really cool and modern and have been in style for a while now but don't forget your bootcut ladies. Boot cuts have been around since the late 1800's but have been put on the back burner in recent years because the skinny jeans and boyfriend but with the boot cut its classic and gives you just enough flare to be feminine and narrow enough to be modern. I would suggest having 4-6 pair of jeans in different cuts that flatter your body (boot-cut,skinny,boyfriend,straight) with different washes and of good quality.
9. Flats
These are so feminine and cute and great for those days you don't want to tower over everyone. With the ballerina flat or regular flat you can wear it with almost anything skirts, jeans, pant but except jogging pants lol The flat is very comfortable, comes in a variety of colors and shapes, can transition from dressy to casual and can be inexpensive if your on a budget. Recently the pointy toe and bed slipper has been in style but to play it safe a rounded toe is the way to go and I would suggest having 2-3 pairs; 1 in black leather either matte or patent,1 pattern and 1 colored.
10. Scarves
11. Black Heel
The simple black heel will come in handy in every occasion and goes with everything. It's very simple, always in style and affordable. These can be worn with dress pants, dresses and jeans, can take them from dressy to casual. I would suggest have 2 pairs of black heels, 1 with a lower heel for casual or work wear and one with a higher heel for the more dressier occasions. Currently right now the pointy toe is in style but getting one that isn't too round or pointy will be a safe bet.
12. Statement Necklace
The statement necklace is a great item to have for those special parties or events. Making a statement has always been in style and will never will fade. Have a flat or boring look then this is definitely a dressy piece that will make your outfit pop each and every time. I would suggest have 2-3 of these necklaces; 1 in sliver,1 in gold and 1 colorful one. The bottom right necklace is going to be available on shoptgim.com in 2 weeks for you to order!
I've only listed 12 but could of easily listed more but I will save the rest for another day. But with these 12 items are great building blocks for having a well rounded wardrobe and they all can be worn with one another to make many different outfit ideas.
